Makeup 101: My Makeup Essentials for Starters

Before, way back in my High School years, I was never fond of wearing makeup. If I do, I will only have the essentials: powder, lip balm and cheek tint. And since I was an athlete way back then, it's really not a must for us to be wearing makeup during big events since we will be getting sweaty.

But when I entered College, and studied Nursing, I was indeed shocked since it is a must for us to wear makeup on our Related Learning Experience (RLE) time, most especially while we are having our hospital duties in order for us to look neat, decent and presentable. I think it's a must for interns or having their On the Job Trainings (OJT's) to wear makeup. And as time goes by, with the help of my friends and of course Youtube, I began to be a makeup enthusiast.

As a beginner, it is important to have your basic essentials with you. It's better to be equipped than never. Here are the actual essentials that I bought from online shops and malls (as of December 2012-February2013). Here also are some of my insights. (feel free to scroll down below! i hope this could be very helpful) <3

first, it is important to have a good set of makeup brushes. I prefer the synthetic ones over the natural hair ones. But before purchasing your own set, you should do some research first or reviews about the product and consider some of these points:

- is it dense?
- does it leave streak marks on your face?
- is it soft and easy to work with?
- does it have scratchy feeling to the face?
- what are the bristles of the brushes made of?
- are the handles of the brushes sturdy?
- is the quality would really last for a long time?

since I really wanted to invest on a good quality of brushes, I purchased mine at http://www.facebook.com/beautycsmetics and bought the Rosey Travel Kit makeup brushes series. For this makeup brush kit, I only bought them for P1,000 and shouldered the shipping fee--- super affordable and has a good quality indeed. They only offer it on a limited edition and I really do love the color: it's pink! And I soooo love pink very much ^_^

these brushes are so dense, and super duper soft too. It doesn't leave a scratchy feeling when being used and the handles are absolutely sturdy. These brushes are synthetic and is easy to work with together with the makeup products that I have. This brush set comes with a travel size pouch too.

if you're on a tight budget, you can shift to makeup sponges instead.

I bought my makeup sponges at Saizen (mostly called Daiso in other countries) for only P88.00, since their store have increased their price range. It already comes in a pack so you have a wide variety of makeup sponges with different textures to work with.

choose also a makeup bag that fits you the most :)

Since I have have an oily-combination skin, and absolutely acidic too, I decided to go one shade higher than my original skin tone because if I don't, my skin tend to get a little bit more darker at the end of the day which is not absolutely cool right? Here are some makeup essentials that you'll definitely gonna need if you're a newbie to makeup.

starting of with a CONCEALER that is easy to work and blend with.

a LIQUID FOUNDATION that matches your skin needs.

a POWDER to set the foundation in.

a wide variety of EYESHADOW colors. It is important that you have a much more wider range of colors so you can explore the look that you desired to have. And since I'm wearing glasses, I tend sometimes to over-do my eye makeup to have that fierce look (wink!) :) Since I am not an avid fan of shimmery eyeshadows, I just opted to have a palette that has the essentials colors only as you can see down below.

an EYE PENCIL for your brows and also for tight-lining and for lining the water line.

a good LIQUID EYELINER that is smudge proof since I do really have oily lids and if I don't use a smudge proof eyeliner, I tend to have that "panda eyes look"--- pretty much nasty though!

an EYE LASH CURLER and a WATERPROOF MASCARA for your lashes to open and brighten up the eyes even more.

a BLUSH that will give you a little hint of color in the apples of your cheeks.

and lastly, a LIP BALM, a LIP GLOSS and/or a LIPSTICK that is good for everyday wear. You can go for a tinted lip balm or just the regular ones. If you opted to use a Matte Lipstick, it is best to apply lip balm first before applying the matte lipstick to avoid flaky-chapped lips.

---* other makeup ideas or options that you would love to add on your makeup bag *---

if you don't want to try a liquid fondation, you may shift to have a BB CREAM or a TINTED MOISTURIZER. it is highly recommended to use a good setting powder since BB Creams and Tinted Moisturizers has a very dewy finish.

if you want to add a little bit of sparkle to your look, you may wanna try a SHIMMERING POWDER.

if you want your eye makeup to last for a couple of hours, you may wanna try an EYE PRIMER. You can also have a FACE PRIMER too! But be careful, primers are a bit pricey if you're on a tight budget.

if you want to achieve that neutral nude look, you may wanna try to have a BRONZER with you. For me, I chose a bronzer that is not actually that dark in order for me to contour my face.

if you have a problem applying your mascara, you may want to have an EYE LASH GUARD with you. It avoids from getting your mascara into your eye makeup (especially when you're already done with it and when you apply mascara, it messes up the look and because of that, you have to re-apply or re-do your eye makeup again)

---> a Makeup Tip that I have learned that I want to share with you!

if you can't afford to have a Bronzer with you, you may wanna try a SINGLE EYESHADOW or the eyeshadow from your makeup pallette. The consistency is still the same and it's cheaper compared to regular bronzers.

you may wanna try to apply FALSE EYELASHES too. it could really change an entire look

piece of advice from me:

it doesn't matter whether you're using a high-end makeup product or just the drugstore makeup for as long as it suites you very well, nothing to worry about! you will
all achieve the look that you really wanna get.
do not be an IMPULSIVE BUYER :)

you don't really have to buy tons of makeup. just buy the essentials to you'll definitely gonna need. every woman wants to achieve different looks everyday.

make reading a habit. do some research or look for reviews before buying the product itself because not all products, whether high-end or drugstore, suites every skin type that we have. before buying the product, test it for yourself. they do offer samples that you can use.

in buying makeup brushes, i would really recommend that you buy only the essentials: the Powder Brush, Angled Brush, Eye Shader Brush, Blending Brush and the Angled Eyeliner Brush. these brushes that I have mentioned are the ones that I have been using every single day.
